Trade stock in Inventory
Use original Trade batches and quantity-only stock in Inventory without importing a second opening balance.
Choose the business
Open Inventory, select the company and choose the business labelled Trade stock under Stock source. You need access to that business’s connected company books. Its existing batches, locations and movements appear here; you do not load another opening balance. Keep location setup in the original Trade network.
Count the right quantity
An original Trade position without batch records is labelled Original quantity-only stock. Count that position when needed; a count does not invent a batch, manufacture date or expiry date. Unverified opening quantities need reconciliation before sale.
For Trade stock, follow the form’s instruction to count all goods physically on hand, including reserved, held and damaged goods. Transit stays separate. Follow the instruction in the selected form, since some stock views list held and reserved quantities separately. The item’s recorded base unit stays fixed; a different unit needs its own configured item rather than relabelling an existing quantity.
Continue through the operation
Use the same receipt, count and history actions. Trade dispatch and goods receipt update these original stock records. Expired, recalled or quality-held goods are unavailable for sale. Returned unavailable goods stay held for inspection; disposal removes the held stock without making it sellable.
Accounting owns the purchase cost, financial journals and cost of goods sold. A balanced movement history confirms recorded quantity arithmetic; it does not establish cost or an independent physical count. Use daily operating checks to follow up on missing stock and financial evidence.
Set stock targets
With the original Trade stock source selected, open Replenishment to configure targets for its items and locations. Planning uses eligible available stock, preserving Trade’s held-stock quantities. Once adopted, the same Inventory target drives Trade’s low-stock check; pause or edit it in Inventory. See Stock targets and replenishment.
