# POS printers and barcode scanners

Set up minimal receipts, keyboard-mode scanners and one-tap camera scanning.

## Connect the counter once

Open **Settings** in the register. **Receipt printer** and **Barcode scanner** keep setup away from everyday selling. Settings are saved for that enrolled device.

## Choose a printer route

### System printer

Use printers available through the web device, Android or iOS print service. Install or enable the printer in the operating system, then choose it in the print dialog. Network and wireless printing follow the OS driver or driverless print service.

### Direct USB · ESC/POS

Use a compatible receipt printer in a browser with USB access. Select the route and **Pair receipt printer**, then choose the device in the browser permission prompt.

### Serial / USB serial · ESC/POS

Use a compatible serial or USB-to-serial receipt printer in a supporting browser. Pair the port and match its baud rate under **Printer options**. Re-pair when requested after reopening the register.

Direct routes unavailable in the current browser are labelled during setup. System printing is the broad route on mobile devices. Bluetooth keyboard scanners, wireless OS printing and a printer's own Bluetooth command protocol are separate capabilities.

A printer advertising ESC/POS can still vary in command support, driver access and printable width. Set it to ESC/POS mode and test the intended configuration. A proprietary printer or payment terminal may require its supported driver or provider connection.

## Match the paper and print a test

1. Select **58 mm receipt**, **80 mm receipt**, or **A4** for system printing.
2. For a direct printer, review **Printer options** only when needed: printable dots, graphics mode, cutter and serial baud rate. Use the default graphics mode first; legacy raster is an explicit compatibility choice.
3. Choose **Print test receipt**. It is clearly marked **NOT A SALE** and creates no invoice, number or payment.
4. Inspect the paper width, text, wrapping and feed before accepting the setup.

For system printing, select matching paper and turn off browser headers and footers. Receipts contain the merchant's name and transaction facts in black and white, without Boni software branding.

## Print or reprint the saved receipt

Open the original sale in **Receipts** and use **Print receipt**. Saved print status distinguishes a queued job from submitted or uncertain output. Sending bytes or closing a print dialog does not prove paper output.

If a response is interrupted, inspect the printer and check the saved print status. An uncertain job is not automatically sent again. Use the explicit confirmation or marked reprint action after checking; a reprint keeps the original sale and creates no new payment or invoice.

Full invoices remain available through **View & print invoice** and **Download invoice**. Their legal and tax facts come from the company's Accounting records.

## Use a keyboard-mode scanner

Connect a USB or Bluetooth scanner in keyboard mode. Scan into product search, or scan while the selling counter is ready. The cashier matches the configured Catalog barcode.

Use **Test a barcode** during setup. **Scanner options** can match a configured prefix, Enter/Tab end key and scan timing. Customer, payment and other text fields retain ordinary typing; the scanner capture does not take over those inputs.

## Scan with your phone or tablet camera

In **Sell**, tap **Scan** beside product search. Allow camera access, then point the rear camera at one product barcode. POS adds the exact catalog item and returns to the sale. For configurable combos, choose the contents as usual. Barcode scanning uses your register’s saved catalog, including exact variants. For tracked goods, use the sale line’s batch action to choose a batch or keep Automatic.

**Light** and **Switch camera** appear when supported by the device. Scanning stops when you close it, add an item or move the app into the background. Tap **Resume** to start again. You can always choose **Enter barcode instead**. If access is denied, allow camera access in browser settings, then try again.

Decoding happens on the device, with no saved or uploaded photos. After the current POS release has downloaded successfully, its decoder is available offline. Barcode matching cannot find a product that is absent from that register's saved catalog.

## Keep payment evidence separate

A card reader uses its certified payment-provider connection. A cable, scan or printed terminal slip alone does not create provider confirmation in POS. Review [Payments and invoices](/pos/payments-and-invoices) for recorded tenders and refund states.
